The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Osun Command, has confirmed that it is working with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to re-arrest seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa.
The escape occurred in the early hours of Tuesday after heavy rainfall around 2:00 a.m. damaged the facility’s perimeter, creating a breach that allowed the inmates to flee.
Speaking in Osogbo on Wednesday, the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Joel Oyedokun, said biometric data of the escapees is being used in the ongoing manhunt, with security personnel deployed across various locations.
Oyedokun also addressed claims of poor communication, clarifying that all relevant agencies had been notified through an official joint platform, even if not contacted individually.
“We’ve been on the field since the incident, and updates will be shared as progress is made,” he said.
