The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, on Monday, June 29, 2025, inaugurated the reconstituted Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Abuja, marking a renewed push by the Federal Government to reform and reposition the maritime sector.

At the ceremony, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Oyetola described the move as aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s broader agenda of strengthening public institutions through targeted reforms that enhance trade facilitation, transparency, and inclusive economic growth.

Oyetola emphasized that while the Board holds policy oversight responsibilities – particularly in staffing and budgeting – day-to-day operations remain strictly within the mandate of the Managing Director and executive team, as outlined in the NPA Act and the Public Procurement Act. He warned against board interference in management functions and called for clear boundaries between governance and operations.

The Minister urged the new Board to work harmoniously with the NPA management, stressing professionalism, cooperation, and a commitment to national interest.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Chairman Senator Adedayo Adeyeye pledged support for the administration’s goals and thanked the President for the opportunity to serve. The Board includes Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho as Managing Director and several executive and non-executive members drawn from across the country.
