Panic has gripped some residents of a community in Kano State following the invasion of the community by gunmen suspected to be bandits and the abduction of a top politician.
The bandits were said to have invaded Beli community in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka Salisu Yahaya, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local government.
The man, said to be a close ally of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, was abducted on Monday night while several residents were also injured during the attack that lasted for hours.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday morning that the bandits specifically targeted the APC chairman because they are sure of receiving huge sums of money as ransom for his release.
As of the time of this report, the APC in the local government is yet to speak on the abduction of its chairman while the entire community members are in panic over possibility of another invasion.
In a related development, on Sunday night, bandits stormed Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State and opened fire on residents, killing two persons.
One of the victims was Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC ward leader in Rantan, who was shot during the attack and later died on the way to hospital. Another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, was shot dead instantly.
The attack occurred in the community just hours after the rescue of the Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, who was abducted in Chiromawa, Garun Malam Local Government Area of the state.
