Some passengers were injured and rushed to the hospital after some gunmen suspected to be bandits rained bullets on the vehicles they were inside in Zamfara State.
The gunmen were said to have carried out the dastardly act on Thursday evening along the Gurusu-Anka highway in the state, leaving the unspecified number of passengers critically injured.
It was gathered that the passengers inside a commercial bus were mostly affected and they were residents of Nahuce in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state who were returning to their community from Anka.
A source close to one of communities where the attack happened told Impact Nigeria News Online on Friday morning that after the gunmen left, the injured passengers were rushed to the General Hospital, Anka, for medical attention.
The source added that while the gunmen were carrying out the attack, distress calls sent to security agencies that were a few kilometres away from the scene were allegedly not responded to.
In another development, on Wednesday night, bandits attacked Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State for over an hour, shooting sporadically on anything in sight.
During the attack, the bandits, who rode motorcycles, injured four vigilantes who engaged them in gun duel and thereafter, they abducted some residents.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents of various communities, killing some and abducting others.
