The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described its elective national convention currently underway at the Lekan Salami Sporting Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State, as “echoing the spirit of the party’s transformative 1998 Jos convention.”
Tagged #Ibadan2025, the party’s convention is scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16, with over 3,000 delegates, governors, National Executive Committee members, Board of Trustees (BoT) members, and party stakeholders from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) expected to elect a new National Working Committee of the party.
In a post on the party’s official X account on Saturday, Babangida Umar stated that the officials to be elected at the national convention would be tasked with steering the party toward the 2027 general elections.

“The event, spanning November 15–16, will culminate in the election of a new National Working Committee, including a National Chairman, to steer the party towards the 2027 general election.
“Seamless processes ensuring inclusivity, with drummers, dancers, and cultural displays celebrating Nigeria’s diversity. The convention proceeds under the watchful eyes of party loyalists and observers, underscoring PDP’s adherence to the rule of law and electoral integrity.
“Ibadan, with its world-class facilities, from bust stops to hotels, stands ready to host this historic gathering, echoing the spirit of the party’s transformative 1998 Jos convention.”
The convention followed delays, factional disputes, and attempts by some parties to involve the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the courts to prevent it from taking place.
