The Ekiti State Police Command on Friday, May 15, announced the dismissal of a Sergeant who became erratic after consuming substances suspected to be hard drugs.
The command said the Sergeant, Temitope Osanyingbemi, was dismissed after it concluded the psychological and medical tests as well as the disciplinary procedures.
It said the ‘unfortunate and ridiculous’ incident happened at Ikole-Ekiti on the May 9 after the officer allegedly consumed some hard drugs and after his apprehension, he was immediately subjected to a medical test and a psychological evaluation.
“The psychological evaluation revealed that the officer was emotionally stable. Meanwhile, the medical test showed that the officer tested positive for tobacco and amphetamine. During further enquiries, the officer confessed to have taken some illicit drugs,” the command said in the statement.
After his confession, the command said internal disciplinary procedures were carried out and the officer was found culpable. He was thereafter recommended for dismissal ‘with immediate effect’ and the recommendation had been upheld.
“The command states that the Force remains a disciplined organisation and will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, unprofessional practice or any act that could ridicule its image,” the command stated.
