The Gombe State Police Command on Sunday, January 11, gave details of how twelve guests returning on a journey after attending a wedding ceremony in Bauchi State were abducted by bandits on the highway in Taraba State.
The command disclosed in a statement that the guests attended the wedding that took place at a community in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State and were returning to Dogo Eli town, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, when they were attacked by bandits at Sabon Layi Town in the same local government area.
The command said the clarification became necessary following reports on the social media which indicated that the abduction took place at Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The reports had stated that the wedding guests were abducted around 1:00 a.m. while some other travellers were said to have escaped during the attack.
The Northern part of the country has been under the grips of bandits and their activities have extended to the North-East, as residents of various communities are now in panic.
In a related development, notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, was on Saturday night said to have led his gang to the Bargaja community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of three people.
Sources close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Sunday evening that several women and children were abducted, though the exact number could not be confirmed.
Turji and his group have been a thorn in the flesh of security agencies, as they launched attacks unchallenged, killing residents and abducting others, especially in Sokoto State.
