Authorities in Lagos have moved to strengthen security around Pan-Atlantic University, Lekki, following widespread concern triggered by a viral video showing two masked individuals emerging from a forested area near the institution.
In response to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, conducted an on-the-spot security assessment of the university on Tuesday, accompanied by operational officers of the command.
The visit came amid growing public anxiety over the footage, which circulated widely on social media and raised questions about the safety of students, staff and residents within the area.
During the inspection, the police commissioner met with the university’s management to review existing security arrangements and identify areas requiring reinforcement. He stressed the importance of strengthening security infrastructure to prevent potential threats and maintain a safe learning environment.
CP Jimoh advised the institution to adopt additional security measures, particularly in the areas of perimeter surveillance, access control and collaboration with law enforcement agencies. He also cautioned against lapses that could undermine the effectiveness of current security systems.
As part of efforts to bolster security operations, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in partnership with the Lagos State Government, has deployed surveillance drones to monitor the university environment and surrounding communities. The technology is expected to improve aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and crime prevention within the area.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, the commissioner assured students, staff, parents and residents that the police remain fully prepared to respond promptly to any security concerns.
“The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Lagos State,” Jimoh stated, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The Lagos State Police Command also called on residents to provide timely and credible information that could aid security operations, while encouraging the use of emergency lines to report suspicious movements and security-related incidents.
The assessment underscores the authorities’ determination to address fears generated by the viral video and reassure the public that proactive measures are being taken to safeguard the university community and its environs.
