The Niger State Police Command has commenced an investigation following the discovery of the body of an unidentified man in an uncompleted building in the Albishiri area of Chanchaga Local Government Area.
The body was found on the morning of Thursday, July 30, 2026, prompting security operatives to visit the scene.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the command received a report at about 7:00 a.m. on Thursday.
He said preliminary findings suggest the incident may be a case of suicide, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the actual cause of death.
According to Abiodun, the matter has been referred to the appropriate local authorities for further action.
“Meanwhile, the Chanchaga Local Government Social Welfare Department has been contacted for necessary action, while further investigation is ongoing,” he said.
A community leader, Dangana Abubakar, said residents discovered the body inside the abandoned structure and immediately alerted the police.
He noted that the deceased had yet to be identified and appealed to members of the public to remain calm while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Abubakar also disclosed that it was the second time a body had been found in an uncompleted building within the community, raising concerns among residents over the use of abandoned structures for criminal or other suspicious activities.
Police said efforts were continuing to identify the deceased and unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
The command urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
