President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) in Kachia, Kaduna State.

The announcement was made on Monday through a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

In addition to Bishop Kukah, President Tinubu also appointed key principal officers for the university, including:

  • Vice Chancellor: Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas
  • Registrar: Sanusi Gambo Adamu
  • Bursar: Ibrahim Dalhat
  • University Librarian: Prof. Daniel Abubakar

The statement further named other members of the university’s Governing Council, representing different geopolitical zones in Nigeria:

  • North Central: Mr. Thomas Etuh
  • South East: Chief Fabian Nwaora
  • South West: Prof. Femi Taiwo
  • North East: Zarah Bukar

According to Onanuga, all appointees were carefully selected based on their outstanding careers, leadership experience, and commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.

President Tinubu tasked the new leadership with positioning FUAS Kachia as a center of academic excellence and research as the university prepares to welcome its first batch of students in September 2025.

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, was formerly known as Nok University before the federal government acquired its assets and renamed it.
