A lady who came into the Bowen University as a corps member 16 years ago and retained after completing her one-year programme, has risen through the ranks and has just been confirmed as the Bursar of the same university.
In 2010, Folasade Adebukola Olapade came to Bowen University as a corps member, was posted to the Audit Unit where she served with excellence in the institution.
Her attitude to her duties made the university to retain her and through dint of hard work, she became the Internal Auditor II, and she kept rising through the ranks.
Throughout her career, she developed broad expertise across critical areas of university financial administration.
Her responsibilities included budget monitoring and expenditure control, treasury and payment processes, student revenue and account auditing, payroll and salary administration, revenue and cash management, bank reconciliation, inventory and asset monitoring, audit coordination, financial reporting, compliance, and the oversight of projects and contracts.
She also served on the Finance Committee, Management Committees, Management Tenders Board, and the committee responsible for developing Financial Guidelines for Bowen University.
Prior to her appointment as Bursar, she served as Deputy Director of Internal Audit, a position she assumed in March 2024.
She previously served as Chief Internal Auditor in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Principal Internal Auditor, and Senior Internal Auditor, following her progression through the university’s Internal Audit Unit.
She contributed to the audit and oversight of income-generating units and collaborated closely with the Bursary, Registry, and other administrative units to strengthen institutional accountability and operational efficiency.
An accomplished scholar and finance professional, she holds a National Diploma in Accountancy from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, with First Class Honours, from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. She was also a recipient of the Shell Nigeria University Scholarship Award during her undergraduate studies.
She is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and has undertaken extensive professional training in accounting, auditing, risk assurance, procurement, contract management, technology, project management, and financial systems.
Following her diligence, the Governing Council of Bowen University, at its meeting approved her appointment as the fifth substantive Bursar of the university marking another significant milestone in Bowen’s commitment to sound financial stewardship, accountability, institutional sustainability, and excellence in administration.
