On the bright morning of May 8, 2025, the city of Awka stirred with anticipation. The streets were adorned with vibrant colors, and the air buzzed with excitement as Anambra State prepared to welcome a distinguished guest. Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo stood poised to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking a significant moment in the state’s history.
As the presidential motorcade arrived, the atmosphere was electric. Governor Soludo stepped forward, his voice resonating with pride and warmth, “On behalf of the government and great people of Anambra State, I am greatly honoured to welcome you, our dear President, to Anambra State – the Light of the Nation! Nnoo Asiwaju! Nnoo Omenife Awka!” He highlighted Anambra’s rich heritage, noting its legacy of producing eminent leaders and thinkers who have shaped Nigeria and Africa.
The Governor emphasized the significance of the President’s visit, the first since 2012, stating, “This visit is not just to commission projects. We have over 500km of roads, flyovers/bridges completed and waiting for commissioning; five new general hospitals and world-class trauma centre completed and waiting for commissioning; smart schools and water projects waiting for commissioning; new markets and bus terminal; etc.” He introduced the President to two newly unveiled mini-cities, the 8-lane boulevard, the tower of light, and the monument of heroes, symbolizing Anambra’s ambitious vision for the future.
Governor Soludo shared his administration’s agenda, aiming to transform Anambra into an African Dubai-Taiwan-Silicon Valley (ADTS). He spoke of a 50-Year Master Plan designed to lay solid foundations for sustainable prosperity. “We are determined to change the trajectory of Anambra from a departure lounge to a destination of choice,” he affirmed.
Acknowledging the President’s efforts in revitalizing Nigeria’s economy, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude, “Thank you for all the hard work you put in to move Anambra and Nigeria forward.” He appreciated the appointment of several Ndi Anambra into federal positions, including Amb Bianca Ojukwu and Mark Okoye. He also lauded the federal government’s ongoing infrastructure projects in the state, such as the Enugu-Onitsha Road and the rehabilitation of the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
The Governor highlighted the effective partnership between Anambra State and the federal government, noting the state’s full participation in federal programs across various sectors. He mentioned the recent recognition of Anambra as the Southeast regional champion and national champion in primary health care, with cash prizes totaling $1.2 million.
However, he also pointed out areas requiring further federal intervention, such as addressing gully erosion, integrating Anambra into the national gas masterplan and rail system, and operationalizing the Onitsha River port. He expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to tackle these challenges, stating, “Only Asiwaju, the man who tamed the Atlantic, can break this 43-year-old jinx.”
Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of national unity and progress, expressing unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration. He recalled their shared history and commitment to federalism and progressivism, highlighting the ideological alignment between APGA and the ruling party.

In conclusion, Governor Soludo extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Tinubu for the historic visit, inviting him to consider operating from Anambra for a period. “May God continue to bless you and may Nigeria continue to win!” he declared, as the crowd erupted in applause, marking a memorable day in Anambra’s journey towards a brighter future.
