Dr Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has visited the hospital where a 10-year-old boy, who was allegedly assaulted by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, is receiving treatment.

During the visit on Tuesday, June 16, Soludo offered to take full responsibility for his rehabilitation and ensure specialised treatment to help him heal physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

A viral video of the 10-year-old boy circulated on social media last week, showing a scalded body with injuries reportedly inflicted on him by his guardians, a woman and her husband.

Following the viral video, the boy was taken into the state’s care with the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Onyekesi, confirming on Monday that he is currently receiving medical treatment under state protection.

While assessing the assault victim’s condition, the Anambra First Lady expressed relief following the reassuring update from the medical team that the boy’s condition is stable.

She pointed out that the victim’s story has touched many hearts and reminded society of its collective responsibility to protect every child from abuse, neglect, and harm.

Soludo, however, urged the public to speak out whenever they witness any wrongful act and to report to relevant authorities.

She said, “I visited young Chiziterem at the hospital where he has now been transferred, to personally assess his condition and offer encouragement as he begins his recovery journey.

“I am relieved by the reassuring update from the medical team that his condition is now stable. While he still requires adequate care and support to fully heal, it is heartwarming to see the progress he has made within such a short time.

“Chiziterem’s story has touched many hearts and reminds us of our collective responsibility to protect every child from abuse, neglect, and harm.

“I will continue to monitor his recovery and ensure he receives the care, protection, and support he deserves. I thank the medical team, concerned citizens, and everyone who has shown love and compassion during this difficult time.

“Remember, if you see something, always endeavour to say something. Call 112 or 5111 to report any emergency.”

The governor’s wife also presented relief materials, including food items and cash for the boy’s use, while commending the medical team of the hospital for their dedication to duty.
