The candidate of Sowore’s African Action Congress (AAC) in the just-concluded governorship election in Anambra State, Chioma Ifemeludike, garnered 292 out of the 595,298 votes cast in the Saturday’s election.
This is a far cry from her claim before the election that she would win because she was the “candidate to beat.”
She came a distant 11th out of the 16 candidates that contested for the election, beating parties like the SDP (241), A Party (224), BP (126), APP (73) and NRM (36).
It would be recalled that during her campaign before the election, she was very visible on the social media, especially X, where she referred to herself as “Her Excellency,” an indication that she was set to be declared the governor after the election.
In one of her posts on X platform, she had written: “I am the flag bearer of the AFRICAN ACTION CONGRESS (AAC) and I’m proud to say that I’m the best candidate to beat on the November 8 Anambra Gubernatorial election. The light house is about to be lit.”
However, she could not secure her place to the Government House on Saturday because the number of votes she got was a far cry from what would have taken her there.
Reacting to her woeful performance at the poll, she said she held her head high as she refused to participate in what she described as “vote buying, gala and malt sharing” election, accusing the other candidates of manipulating the electoral process.
“To what end? How can I give elders I should give a monthly social security, housing and health package gala? Haba! After giving them gala what next? It’s inhuman, I’m not that person,” she wrote in one of her tweets after her defeat..
