Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Wednesday, June 28, 2023, as the day to commemorate Eid-Ul-Adha.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by the National Moonsighting Committee, declared Monday, June 19 as the first day of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH.
In the statement, the NSCIA president conveyed that the Sultanate Council Sokoto has proclaimed Monday, June 19, 2023, as the initiation of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH.
“The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Monday 19/June/2023 as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH. Accordingly, Wednesday 28/June/2023 will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH,” the statement reads.
“His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, wishes the entire Muslim Ummah happy Eid-ul-Adha Mubarak in advance.”
Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as Eid-Ul Kabir, represents the second significant celebration in the Hijrah calendar, following Eid-ul-Fitr, which commemorates the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Muslims are encouraged to intensify their acts of worship during the 10-day period leading up to the festivities and ask Allah for their heartfelt desires.
