Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 2-0 in an international friendly held recently at the upgraded MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. The match served as key preparation for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco this July.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade led by example, scoring both goals in a commanding performance. The fixture, originally planned as a two-legged tie, became a single match due to scheduling conflicts. Despite a late kickoff adjustment, fans packed the stadium, with free entry boosting attendance. Governor Dapo Abiodun was present and later visited the team, highlighting his administration’s support for sports development.
The Falcons dominated from the outset, pressing high and controlling possession. Ajibade struck in both halves, while Coach Justine Madugu’s side showed tactical sharpness and attacking flair. The return of veteran striker Francisca Ordega added depth, and rising talents like Miracle Usani and Emem Essien impressed.
The win marks Nigeria’s 15th over Cameroon in 21 meetings. With group-stage opponents Botswana, Tunisia, and Algeria awaiting in Morocco, the Falcons head into WAFCON full of confidence, aiming for a record-extending 10th continental title.
