The Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Public Affairs, Mr Lere Olayinka, on Wednesday, November 12, disclosed that the land that generated public reactions on Tuesday was actually sold to the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Lawal Gambo, by someone he described as ‘fraudster.’
Olayinka disclosed this on his social media handles while making clarifications regarding the face-off between the minister, Nyesom Wike and a naval officer, Lieutenant Yerima.
During the encounter on Tuesday, Yerima, in company of some armed military men, stood his ground, preventing the minister and his officials from gaining access to the land, as the naval officer said he was there acting on order.
The enraged Wike called him various derogatory names and threatened to deal with him, but this didn’t deter Lieutenant Yerima, as he stood his ground, causing Wike and his officials to leave the area.
However, while giving an update on the matter on Wednesday, Lere Olayinka disclosed that the former Chief of Naval Staff was actually duped by someone who sold the land to him and other people, adding that the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority (FCTDA) was not aware of the sale of the land to him and others.
He added that the land sold to the former naval boss was meant for Park and Recreation and he was already using it to build duplexes which is contrary to the Abuja master plan.
He wrote: “Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, was scammed. He was duped by someone who sold the land to him and other people.
“He needs to use his military might against the person who sold land meant for PARK and RECREATION to him to build DUPLEXES, not FCTA officials carrying out their lawful duties.”
