The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of three children in Mafa Local Government Area after their bodies were discovered inside a parked vehicle.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso said the victims — identified as three-year-old Anwar Baba Zannah, his sister Mama Baba Zannah, aged one year and five months, and five-year-old Ahmed Muhammad — were reported missing on September 23. Their disappearance was reported by their fathers, Baba Zannah Jaridama and his neighbour, Muhammad Bukar, both residents of Zannari Ali Ngoshe area in Mafa.
Despite initial efforts by police to trace the children, their whereabouts remained unknown until the following morning when Jaridama discovered their corpses inside his Honda Civic, parked near his residence. Officers quickly moved to the scene and conveyed the bodies to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead. The remains have been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. He expressed condolences to the grieving families and assured residents that findings from the probe would be made public.
The Command also appealed for calm and urged members of the public to support police efforts with credible information.
