Some suspected thugs on Wednesday night invaded the Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, Edo State capital, destroying valuables in the process.

The thugs were said to have arrived at the Secretariat around 11:00 p.m., destroying doors and windows as well as the various poles hoisting the flags of the party.

Following the attack, a distress call was received by the police command and its operatives went to the scene, but the thugs were said to have left before their arrival.

The command, while reacting to the incident in a statement on Thursday, February 5, said investigations are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The command said: “Preliminary assessment revealed malicious damage to flags and shattered windows and doors in the premises. Security has since been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The command appreciates the prompt call that was made to the control room which saved the day, encourages everyone in distress to do same through its dedicated lines and warns miscreants against such heinous act as anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
