President Bola Tinubu spokesman, Bayo Onanuga has debunked the allegation against his principal contemplation to declare a state of emergency in Kano State.
Onanuga firmly dismissed the allegations made by Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), regarding purported plans by the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Kano State.
Kwankwaso while speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of an 82-kilometre rural road network in his hometown, Madobi, accused the federal government of compromising the security in Kano.
He claimed that the heavy security detail guarding the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, was part of a scheme to destabilize the state.
He further stated that the people of Kano would resist any attempts to undermine the state’s constituted authority.
Onanuga, who addressed the allegations in an interview with The Nation, dismissed them as unfounded rumours.
Onanuga emphasized that the Federal Government has no plans to declare a state of emergency in Kano or any other state without the involvement of the National Assembly.
“There is no truth in it. It is a mere rumour. The Federal Government cannot declare any state of emergency in any state without the involvement of the National Assembly. There is no such plan. It is a mere rumour.
“The National Assembly is in recess. No president can just wake up and declare a state of emergency in any state,” Onanuga said.
