President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will flag off a significant wave of infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) starting Tuesday, June 10, immediately after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike made the announcement on June 4 during a tour of project sites across Abuja, framing the rollout as a core highlight of the administration’s second anniversary under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The commissioning begins at the newly rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC), which Wike hailed as “a milestone never before witnessed in the capital’s history.” Over the next 10 days, Tinubu will personally inaugurate 10 of 17 completed signature projects. The remaining seven will be handled by top government officials—Vice President Kashim Shettima will commission three, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas will oversee two each.
The projects include urban roads, interchanges, public buildings, and upgrades in satellite towns. One of the most anticipated is the Gishiri Interchange, set for June 11, which aims to improve traffic flow between key districts like Jahi, Mabushi, and Maitama.
Wike also introduced a new infrastructure maintenance model, beginning with the ICC, which will be managed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. “The era of abandoning public assets is over,” he declared.
Celebrated by local communities, including cheering children in Gishiri, the initiative reflects a broader strategy to make governance more visible and impactful. “This is the Abuja we’ve been waiting for,” Wike said. “And it’s only just the beginning.”
