A heartbreaking incident took place in Afio village, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, where a 19-year-old boy named Sunday Moses was discovered dead after reportedly taking his own life by hanging on a tree in the village.
Moses’ body was found hanging in a remote, rocky section of the village. According to reports, the young man, who was a secondary school graduate, had informed his 47-year-old brother that he was heading to a more network-receptive location in order to make a phone call.
Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that the deceased, Sunday Moses, was found by his brother John Egbe after a prolonged search for his whereabouts.
Investigations revealed that Moses had recently lost his mother, who had yet to be buried in their hometown of Oju, Benue State.
Odutola said, “The deceased left his home in Ogungbade village early on February 10, 2025, in search of better network service, When he failed to return, his elder brother, John Egbe, became worried and traced him to the location, where he made the devastating discovery.”
Upon receiving the report, detectives were deployed to the scene, and photographs were taken as part of the investigation.
Odutola confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the corpse has been released to the family for burial according to their traditional rites.
