A trailer driver fled with his vehicle after causing a multiple vehicle accident that claimed the life of a father, mother and child while two others sustained injuries at Sectretariat inward Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 10, when the trailer driver on excessive speed drove recklessly and caused the tragedy.
It was gathered that the accident involved three vehicles, an Audi, Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla and was caused when the heavily loaded trailer hit one of the vehicles from the rear.
The impact of the hit caused the vehicle to lose control, crashing into two other moving vehicles thereby triggering the fatal chain-reaction accident that led to the death of the entire family who were occupants of one of the vehicles.
The accident was announced by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA in a statement on Wednesday which also wrote: “In a disturbing development, the trailer driver absconded immediately from the scene with his vehicle, leaving the victims in peril and evading accountability for the fatal incident.”
It was gathered that the bodies of the three family members who were trapped in the car were recovered and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) and taken to the mortuary.
The two injured victims trapped within the wreckage were extricated and taken to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical attention.
