43 district and deputy governors have been dismissed by the Turkish Interior Ministry over suspected links to the Gülen movement, which Ankara holds responsible for the July 2016 coup attempt.
Report states that majority of the sacked governors were serving in eastern Turkey and some of them were also appointed as mayors after dismissals of elected Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) mayors because of their alleged links with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
More than 150,000 state employees have been dismissed and thousands arrested in state institutions over suspected links to the Gülen movement, including the police force, army and judiciary.
Since the failed coup attempt, 563 out of a total of 1,875 governors have been investigated and 470 of them were fired, according to report.
The report states that 120 governors are still on a black list.
