Two men who were said to have specialised in supplying ammunition to criminal elements have been arrested by men of the Oyo State Police Command while a total of 250 live cartridges were recovered from them during the arrest.
The two men, Ganiyu Sodiq (aged 35) and Salaudeen Sheriff (aged 23), were arrested on Wednesday, June 10, in connection with the unlawful possession of ammunition.
It was gathered that they were apprehended at Budo Pako, Oke-Oyan area of the state and at the point of their arrest, the 250 live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
According to the command, preliminary investigations revealed that they could not provide any explanation or account regarding their possession of the recovered ammunition.
Further investigative findings indicated that they were involved in the trafficking and supply of ammunition to criminal elements operating within and beyond the state.
The command also added that ongoing intelligence-led investigations are focused on dismantling the wider network, identifying possible collaborators, and determining the source and intended destination of the recovered cartridges.
The two men had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and they are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
