Two Beretta pistols, nine live bullets, substance suspected to be cocaine, a dagger, among other items, were found with two men suspected to be criminals by men of the Delta State Police Command inside a Mercedes Benz Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) during a stop and search on a road in the state.
The command recovered the items during the stop-and-search carried out by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the Agbarho-Warri Road on Saturday, July 25.
The men, Omini Ezeri (aged 46 years) and Chinedum Wagbara (aged 42 years), were said to have been intercepted while travelling in a grey Mercedes-Benz ML SUV with registration number AAA 604 JZ.
During preliminary questioning after they were flagged down, the third occupant of the vehicle suddenly took to his heels and escaped into a nearby swamp.
However, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally-fabricated Beretta pistols loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, about 200 grammes of substance suspected to be cocaine, one walkie-talkie, one dagger, one grinder, and two phones.
The two men are in custody giving more useful information to the police operatives while the case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.
The command said in a statement on Sunday, July 26, that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
