Less than 24 hours after the Governing Council of the University of Lagos, Unilag, announced the removal of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor  Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Senate of the university rejected the decision, stating that due process was not followed.

The Governing Council led by its Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, Wale Babalakin, on Wednesday announced Ogundipe’s removal due to alleged gross misconduct and acts of corruption.

But the Senate, reacting to the Governing Council’s decision, argued that the council erred in its decision stressing that a joint committee of the council and the Senate should have been set up to investigate the allegation before any decision could be taken.

The council therefore rejected the appointment of Prof Omololu Soyombo as Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, on the ground that Ogundipe’s removal contradicted the act that established the institution.

Meanwhile Prof. Ogundipe, reacting to the Babalakin-led governing council leadership insisted that he remains the VC of the university.
