The Anambra State Police Command on Thursday, May 21, said the police officer who made threatening remarks about Nigerians recording activities of policemen on videos has been subjected to drug test as part of disciplinary measures against him.
The officer, ASP Newton Isokpehi, attached to the command, was seen in a video that went viral where he made the threatening remarks.
However, following the backlash the video generated, the officer later made another video apologising for making such threats.
Following the development and apparently angry with the officer’s conduct, the Nigeria Police Force said in a statement that the officer had been identified while disciplinary measures against him had commenced.
Shortly after the statement by the Nigeria Police Force, the state police command gave an update on the disciplinary measures, saying he had been subjected to drug test.
The command however did not give details of the outcome of the drug test carried out on him.
“In line with the disciplinary standards and ethical code of the Nigeria Police Force, internal disciplinary proceedings have since been activated against the officer.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, the officer has also been subjected to a drug test to aid the command in establishing all surrounding circumstances and ensuring a thorough and transparent process,” the command said in the statement issued on Thursday night.
The command also assured that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public and that any officer found culpable will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law and police regulations.
