President Donald Trump of the United States on Friday said the country cannot stand by while Christian persecution in Nigeria and other numerous countries, saying Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ in response to the issue.
Trump said this on Friday according to a post by the White House, the official residence of the US President.
According to Trump: “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!”
He said Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria, adding that thousands of Christians are being killed, alleging that radical Islamists are being responsible for what he described as “mass slaughter.”
Trump stated that when Christians or any such groups, are slaughtered, like its happening in Nigeria, something must be done.
He said he has directed Rep. Riley Moore, Rep. Tom Cole, and members of the House Appropriations Committee to immediately look into the matter and report their findings to him.
