The United States Congress has ratified Joe Biden’s victory at the 2020 presidential election.

Lawmakers were under heavily-armed guard after police regained control of the Capitol in Washington to officially confirm Biden as the country’s 46th president and Kamala Harris as Vice President.

US lawmakers sealed the Democratic president-elect’s victory following a round of fending off expected objections to the country’s 3 November election raised by a small cohort of Republicans on behalf of Donald Trump.

The outgoing US President Donald Trump, through a statement by one of his aides Dan Scavino, said:

“Even though I totally disagree the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th.”

He also repeated several unverified claims about voter fraud during the election.

Reacting to the lawlessness at the capitol, the incoming President, Joe Biden in a statement said:

“Let me be very clear: the scenes of chaos at the Capitol do not reflect a true American, do not represent who we are. What we’re seeing are a small number of extremists dedicated to lawlessness.”

Meanwhile, the mob invasion has claimed the lives of a female protester, who was shot by police during the siege, and three others who died from “medical emergencies” according to the law enforcement officials.

Recall that Biden had defeated Donald Trump in the last presidential election.

Despite the defeat, Trump had vowed never to concede defeat.
