Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Sokoto, has affirmed significant progress in the fight against banditry and terrorism within the division’s area of responsibility.
Ajose emphasized that numerous bandit leaders and their operatives have been neutralized, marking steady victories for the troops.
He credited the achievements to the deployment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Battalion VII in Gudu, enhanced by new Nigerian Air Force (NAF) air assets and other combat enablers. These resources, he said, have acted as force multipliers in the ongoing operations across Sokoto State.
Reiterating the military’s commitment to national security, General Ajose assured that efforts to safeguard the region would remain relentless despite existing challenges.
“We are determined to eliminate all barriers to peace across our area of responsibility to ensure a more secure, peaceful, and prosperous nation,” he affirmed.
The GOC made these remarks during his address at the 2024 annual West African Social Activities (WASA) event, held at the 26 Battalion parade ground in Sokoto.
“This progress has undoubtedly boosted socioeconomic activities across the region, as farmers and citizens now confidently carry out their daily activities. The trust placed in us by the people has been restored,” he stated.
General Ajose, who also serves as the Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) Commander for Operation Hadarin Daji in the Northwest, noted that all scheduled training activities for the year were successfully completed, as outlined in the Army Headquarters Forecast of Events. This was achieved despite notable challenges encountered during the period.
The GOC urged continued vigilance in security matters while expressing gratitude to Governor Aliyu Sokoto for his support and contributions toward achieving lasting peace in the state. He also commended the governor for his participation in the WASA event.
“This success is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our personnel, and we remain resolute in our mission to ensure peace and security across the region,” General Ajose concluded.
