Davide Lo Surdo was born on July 24, 1999, in Rome, Italy. Rolling Stone Magazine described him as the fastest guitarist in the history of music, for his ability to play 129 notes per second. Davide Lo Surdo’s guitar, model “DLS1”, was permanently conferred to the Historical Instruments Museum in the USA called “Sigal”, where instruments played by Mozart and Chopin are kept.
One of the two guitars that Davide Lo Surdo used during his concert tour in Cuba in May 2024, has been permanently exhibited in the National Museum of Music in Havana. Lo Surdo has been honored with a Bronze Statue erected in Aarhus, Denmark. Lo Surdo is on the cover and is included in the music history book “Rock Memories Vol. 2” written by Maurizio Baiata, with artists such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon.
In a notable accolade, the London Daily News ranked him second among the greatest guitarists of all time – just after Jimi Hendrix.
Lo Surdo was awarded at the Sanremo Music Awards in Venice, Italy as the fastest guitarist of all time on December 20th 2019. Lo Surdo toured all around the world, performing in countries such as India, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Bolivia, United States of America, Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom and his home country, Italy. Lo Surdo discovered his passion for playing the guitar at the tender age of 9.
Inspired by his neighbor Aurora, he began taking guitar lessons from a priest at the church “Santa Gemma Galgani” in Rome. His mother is Sandra Giorgio and his father is Maurizio Lo Surdo. He also has a younger brother: Gianluca. Then Lo Surdo began taking guitar lessons with various teachers but his learning was so fast that at one point, he began to study as an autodidact.
Lo Surdo performed his first ever concert at the age of 11 and at the age of 13, he performed his first important concert at the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in Rome. In 2014, Lo Surdo played on stage with Steve Vai at the venue “Stazione Birra” in Rome, Italy, where Vai was shocked by Lo Surdo’s skills.
In 2016, Lo Surdo started touring a lot in Italy. During one of his tours of that year, he played 8 shows in 7 days in 8 different cities. On June 8th 2018 he performed for the first time abroad giving a concert in Switzerland and one week later, on June 16th 2018, he toured in the United Kingdom performing a concert at the Dublin Castle in London. Between December 2018 and January 20, he toured for the first time in Mexico and in the USA (performing in Los Angeles at the NAMM SHOW and in Hollywood at the venue “Whisky a Go Go”). In January 2020, he toured for the first time in India performing at the KSHITIJ,IIT KHARAGPUR Festival in Kharagpur, at Muzik Factory in Kolkata and at the Urban Mantra Club in Guwahati.
Lo Surdo performed at the “Rolling Stone Music & Run” event for the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Rolling Stone Magazine in Brazil, in the “Sambódromo do Anhembi” arena in São Paulo on November 20th 2021. That same year, GuitarraMX Magazine recognized Lo Surdo as “the fastest guitarist in music history” and dedicated the cover of their July 2021 issue to him.
Throughout his career, he has shared stages with esteemed artists including Jeff Loomis, Steve Vai, Mike Stern, Angel Vivaldi, Joel Hoekstra, Doogie White, Mark Boals, Edu Falaschi and many more.
