Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Tuesday declared that President Bola Tinubu’s performance has effectively dismantled all opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the commissioning of Arterial Road N16 in Abuja, Wike lauded the administration’s infrastructure achievements as evidence of leadership through action.
“Mr. President, your good work has killed the coalition. Those planning to remove you in 2027 are bound to fail—they’ve already failed,” Wike stated at the Katampe District event, which marked the completion of a major road connecting Shehu Shagari Way to Wole Soyinka Way.
A longtime member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike’s public support for Tinubu – leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) – has sparked internal party tensions. He went further during the ceremony, offering to lead Tinubu’s re-election campaign. “Whether you agree or not, I am an asset,” he said defiantly.
Opposition parties reacted sharply. The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) called Wike a “hatchet man,” while PDP officials warned of impending disciplinary action. Unfazed, Wike dared the PDP to suspend him.
President Tinubu, in turn, praised Wike’s leadership in Abuja and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to development, citing programs like NELFUND and the Students’ Start-up Innovation Grant.
With defections already reported in Delta and Akwa Ibom, Wike’s alliance with Tinubu is deepening rifts in the PDP and altering Nigeria’s political terrain ahead of 2027 – where infrastructure and realignment may prove decisive.
