The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, on Sunday, September 20, disclosed that about 200 dialysis sessions are carried out in one of the general hospitals in the state for patients down with various ailments.

Prof Abayomi said this in a post on his X handle while debunking a report doing the round that the said hospital, Alimosho General Hospital, has only one functional dialysis machine.

He stated that the dialysis centre at the hospital has eight dialysis machines, adding that all of them are working.

He added that six of the machines serve general dialysis patients every day, and two are dedicated to patients living with HIV or hepatitis, in line with infection prevention and control best practice.

He said: “We run up to 200 dialysis sessions every month, supported by a dedicated standby generator. Sessions start as early as 6:00 a.m., and the centre stays open until the last patient is done, often till midnight, so no patient is turned back,” he wrote in the post.

According to him, dialysis is also available at other public hospitals in Lagos, including Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, IDH Yaba and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, with more centres coming on stream.

“The health of Lagosians is our priority at the Lagos State Ministry of Health,” he stated.
