Men of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a 16-year-old teenager as well as his father after the boy used the father’s Dane gun to kill his 15-year-old friend while they were playing.
The incident occurred in Suleja, a major town in the state, when the 16-year-old boy, Emmanuel Danladi, used the Dane gun his father, Baba Danladi, was using as a member of the Vigilante Group in the town, to play with the victim, Titus Joseph.
It was gathered that unknown to the boy that the gun was loaded, he brought it out in the evening of Sunday, March 1, and started playing with his friend in his father’s compound.
He was said to have aimed the gun at his friend and as he pulled the trigger, the boy was shot at a close range in the stomach and he died instantly.
Following the death of Titus, a distress call was made to men attached to the Maje Divisional Headquarters of the command who raced to the scene, took the corpse to the General Hospital, Suleja, while the boy that pulled the trigger was arrested.
Also, after days of manhunt, the father was arrested for negligence and culpable homicide as a result of his decision to keep a loaded gun at home.
The boy and his father had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID after preliminary investigation while the gun has been recovered and kept as an exhibit. They are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
