The posting of the 65 ambassadors to their respective host countries by President Bola Tinubu has elicited reactions from Nigerians, who have taken to various social media platforms to express their opinions on the deployment.

While some of the reactions congratulated the ambassadors, others queried their suitability for their respective host countries, given their antecedents.

Information on the ambassadors’ countries of deployment was contained in a statement on Friday, March 6, by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement noted that the president directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners.

In their reactions on X (formerly Twitter), some Nigerians say the postings do not inspire hope, noting that the appointments are political rewards and not based on competence.

@LyfAcrosBorders tweeted, “This is really sad. Mr Tinubu is awarding positions based on loyalty rather than competence.”

@Emmanuel_umoh12 said, “Sad reality: There’s no substantial change that will even come with this appointment.”

@henry_chuze wrote, “Honestly, every Nigerian in a foreign nation must learn to conduct themselves very well by avoiding troubles and abiding by the laws of their country or residence because the personalities appointed by the president as ambassadors are full of questionable characters. SMH.”

@mylesmonroel added, “How can Nigeria and Nigerians get things fixed when people of questionable character are elected into offices and posted to represent us. IT IS WELL.”

@FOchiabutor said, “Doesn’t inspire hope. Renewed hopelessness.”

@franadah wrote, “Fani Kayode should have been taken to Iran. He speaks on their behalf a lot.”

Some others speculated that the posting of Reno Omokri to Mexico may be related to his earlier comments accusing the president of being a drug lord.

@endwelljohn2022 wrote, “Make e no be like say na set up for Reno Omokri ooh! Since he accused Tinubu of being a drug lord, now he has to go to a drug nation to face the cartel!”

@EmeziemLonginus added, “After all his effort, after having made many enemies for himself. Just Mexico? Not USA, UK, GERMANY, FRANCE, CHINA, JAPAN and other big nations.”
