Motorists were stunned on Friday evening when they arrived some filling stations in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and were told that a litre of petrol is now N1,080.
This led to panic buying that eventually led to long queues at some of the filling stations.
The situation followed the announcement by the Dangote Group of an increase in the landing cost of the commodity from N835 to N995, a hike of N160.
Many motorists at petrol stations in some areas of the city such as Oke Ado, Oke Bola, Challenge, Oluyole Estate as well as Apata and Dugbe queued at the filling stations before they were able to get the commodity while many residents also came to the stations with jerry cans and kegs.
Some of the motorists, especially commercial vehicle drivers as well as commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders, said they don’t know what awaits them tomorrow (Saturday) as they speculated that some of the filling stations will deliberately hoard the commodity and shut the gates of their stations.
