The men of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a young man who lured his seven-year-old younger sister into the bush and plucked her eyes for money ritual purpose.
The state police command announced the sad incident on Monday in a statement, saying the officers of the command effected the arrest following a report received over the incident.
It was gathered that on October 17, one person reported at the Soro Divisional Headquarters that the teenage elder brother, Auwalu Muhammad, lured the girl, Rukayya Muhammad, into the bush at Bayan Dutse Village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
According to the report, right inside the bush, Auwalu removed both eyes of his younger sister and left her there writhing in pains before a passers-by saw her and raised the alarm.
The police were said to have visited the place and rushed the girl to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital where the doctors on duty confirmed that she had lost her sight permanently.
The command wrote: “The victim’s father was interviewed who confirmed that Auwalu lured his sister of the same parents into the bush, brutally attacked her and forcefully removed her two eyes. During interrogation, the suspect also voluntarily confessed to the crime.
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation into the act.
He is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation, the command added.
