A 17-year-old teenager who was given a motorcycle and phone for safe keeping by the owner and who eventually absconded with them has told me of the Niger State Police Command that he had sold the two items.
The state police command announced the development on its Facebook page on Monday, October 12, saying the teenager, Yusuf Adamu, was arrested after the owner of the motorcycle and phone lodged a complaint at a police station.
It was gathered that the owner told police operatives that due to his health condition which required him to undergo treatment, he entrusted the Jincheng motorcycle and phone to Adamu for safe keeping, adding that when he became well and went to Adamu’s house to take his items back, he had absconded.
Following the report lodged by the man, policeman launched a manhunt for Adamu and this paid off on October 10 when he was arrested at a black spot in the Maitunbi area of Minna, the state capital.
During his interrogation, he was said to have admitted that the man gave him the items for safe keeping, adding however that he sold the items through one of his friends.
Further investigation by the operatives led to the arrest of the buyers of the items, whose names were given as Salisu Musa and Hussaini Saliman, while the phone as well as the motorcycle were recovered from them.
They were said to have been charged to court and remanded in prison custody following the conclusion of the investigation by the police.
In a related development, the police also disclosed that a young man who stole a motorcycle at the Federal Capital Territory was arrested after he brought it to Niger State.
The man, Ibrahim Musa, was said to have taken away the motorcycle given to him by the owner for commercial purpose and after some time, he took the motorcycle away from Abuja and rode it to Minna where he spent over one month and cut all forms of communication with the owner.
