A phone belonging to an armed robber which he left behind when he and other members of his gang invaded the home of a man was what men of the Bauchi State Police Command used in tracking and arresting him and three others.
The state police command announced the development in a statement on Wednesday evening, as it added that the robbers invaded the man’s house and others in the area around 2:00 a.m. on November 11.
According to the command, a complaint was received from one Everest Jonathan whose residence is behind V.I.O office along Jos Road Bauchi, at B’ Divisional Police Headquarters indicating that armed robbers numbering about five invaded his house as well as those of others and robbed him and other occupants of valuables.
The command added that some of the stolen valuable included phones, clothes, shoes, cash, among others.
On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were said to have visited the scene and assessed the level of damage and loss.
However, during the assessment, they found a phone left behind by one of the robbers and when they used the phone to track the owner, it was linked to Alhassan Jibrin, alias Babani Biri, aged 20 years. He was said to have admitted being the owner and that he left it behind during the robbery operation.
Also, he was said to have given further details which led to the arrest of Lawan Adamu, aged 20 years; Lawan Idris, aged 22 years as well as Muhammad Yau, also known as Madugu, aged 22 years in connection with the crime.
The command wrote: “During interrogation, they all confessed to have conspired among themselves and invaded houses located behind V.I.O. Office along Jos Road, Bauchi, where they attacked innocent occupants and robbed them of their valuables on different occasions.”
The command added that at the point of their arrests, various stolen valuables were recovered from them, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. They are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
The command also disclosed that it is intensifying efforts to apprehend other accomplices who are currently at large.
