Nollywood icon Patience Ozokwor, famously known as “Mama G,” is entangled in a contentious land dispute that has sparked viral outrage and reignited debates on land rights, gender, and online justice in Nigeria.
The drama began when a widow and her daughter posted a tearful video accusing the actress of seizing land belonging to their late husband. The video swiftly gained traction, with viewers expressing sympathy and donating funds to the widow’s cause.
The accusation hinges on claims that Ozokwor exploited the absence of a male heir to claim the land – a notion that resonated deeply in a country where inheritance laws often sideline women. In a firm rebuttal, Ozokwor called the allegations “blackmail and fraudulent,” stating she legally purchased the land in 2010 after being approached by the widow herself.
According to Ozokwor, the dispute only surfaced in 2023, when the widow allegedly attempted to resell part of the land. The actress responded by fencing the property to protect her claim.
Now headed to court, the case reflects not just a property battle, but broader societal fault lines. Ozokwor maintains her innocence, urging critics to let the courts decide: “Social media is not a court.”
