Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was on Tuesday conferred with the chieftaincy title “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council. The title, meaning “Jewel of Empowerment,” was awarded in recognition of her contributions to women’s empowerment, humanitarian work, and national development.

The honour was bestowed during her two-day visit to Enugu State from June 9 to 10, marked by vibrant cultural displays and traditional rites. Clad in richly embroidered attire and a ceremonial headwrap bearing her new title, the First Lady received royal items including a beaded necklace and fan.

The traditional ruler of Enugu presided over the ceremony, attended by political dignitaries and local chiefs.

In her remarks, Senator Tinubu described Enugu as a place of “inner peace” and said the honour extended to her family and the presidency. She praised traditional institutions for their unifying role and pledged continued support for national harmony.

The chieftaincy title reflects not just recognition but strategic outreach, as it comes midway through President Tinubu’s tenure. Analysts see it as a move that reinforces the First Lady’s grassroots appeal and bridges federal and regional relationships across Nigeria’s diverse cultural landscape.
