The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned what it describes as baseless attempts by opposition parties to discredit the recently concluded Local Government elections held on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, dismissed allegations of electoral irregularities, insisting the poll was peaceful, transparent, and conducted in full compliance with legal and procedural standards.
“The Lagos State APC has noted with concern the baseless and ill-advised efforts by certain opposition parties to discredit the recently concluded local government elections,” Oladejo said. “These attempts, marked by misinformation, sensationalism and outright falsehoods, are a disservice to the democratic process and an insult to the people of Lagos who participated in a credible election.”
Oladejo asserted that the elections were supervised by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), with the active involvement of civil society observers and other stakeholders. He emphasized that the results reflect the will of the people and are a testament to the APC’s enduring popularity in Lagos due to its record of governance and service delivery.
Dismissing the opposition’s calls for cancellation of the poll results, Oladejo accused rival parties of political desperation and disregard for democratic norms, urging them to seek redress through legally recognized channels instead of resorting to public “smear campaigns.”
“The people of Lagos have spoken through the ballot, and their voice must be respected. We urge the opposition to act responsibly and engage the process constructively,” he added.
Oladejo reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and responsive governance, calling on all stakeholders to prioritize the collective interest of Lagosians over partisan politics.
The APC secured a sweeping victory in the election, winning all 57 chairmanship positions and 375 out of 376 councillorship seats, further consolidating its dominance in the state’s political landscape.
