The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists following a violent clash in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the incident occurred on September 16, when armed youths believed to be cultists attacked one another with cutlasses, bottles and daggers behind Nwafor Orizu College of Education.

A joint police and vigilante team swiftly intervened, arresting Oyachonam Friday (26), Akachukwu Ekwenze (23), David Chukwuma (25) and Eziolise Aloysius (23). One of the suspects, David Chukwuma, sustained machete cuts and is receiving treatment. Police said the suspects confessed to being members of the “AYES” confraternity. Efforts are ongoing to track down others who fled into nearby bushes.

In a separate operation, police arrested Patrick Ojele, 43, who allegedly pretended to be mentally unstable while cultivating a hidden cannabis farm in Awka for over two years. Ojele was caught during a patrol along the Awka–Enugu Expressway on September 17 and later led operatives to the site where large quantities of cannabis were recovered.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured residents that the command remains committed to dismantling cult groups and drug networks that fuel violent crime in the state.
