Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, have arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in separate raids in Warri, Delta State, and Owerri, Imo State.
The suspects were apprehended on Friday, September 19, following intelligence reports linking them to internet and cryptocurrency-related fraud. According to investigators, the group allegedly used internet-enabled devices to defraud unsuspecting victims.
A man described as the suspected kingpin, identified as Robert Ebuka Chukwuedo of Commissioner Street, Warri, reportedly fled during the operation. However, EFCC operatives arrested some of his associates inside his residence.
Recovered items include several exotic cars, laptops, smartphones, and fetish materials. The suspects are also being investigated for alleged involvement in money laundering and other cyber-related offences.
The EFCC said the individuals would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
