A police officer sustained gunshot injuries when a patrol team had a gun duel with some armed robbers who snatched some money from a man after he left a bank in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to information gathered, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Monday along Secretariat Road, Agodi, when the robbers attacked the man inside his vehicle after he withdrew some money from the premises of a bank (names withheld).
According to the report, after the men on a motorcycle snatched the money from the man, a distress call was made to a police patrol team that was around the area who raced to the scene and confronted the robbers.
However, during the gun duel that ensued, a member of the patrol team sustained gunshot injuries and has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident when contacted on phone, saying efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing robbers.
He said: “Our initial investigations indicate that an officer associated with the Oyo State Police Command sustained severe injuries during a confrontation that arose when his team on patrol engaged the suspects in a bid to thwart their further plans of causing chaos following the attack on the individual.
“Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities, and the injured officer is currently receiving immediate medical attention at a healthcare facility.”
He also urged residents of the city to come forward with any credible and timely information that may aid in the prompt apprehension of those involved in the robbery incident.
