Some kidnappers who were unable to abduct their target because he fled from his home, resorted to taking his girlfriend and his friend as his replacement.
However, following the incident, men of the Bauchi State Police Command launched a manhunt and succeeded in arresting two of the kidnappers and rescuing the lady and the man’s friend.
According to the state police command in a statement on Wednesday, on October 29 around 10:30 p.m., a 32-year-old resident of Wuntin Dada, Bauchi, reported at the B Divisional Headquarters that five armed men attempted to kidnap him at his residence.
However, because they could not get him because he fled, they abducted his girlfriend, Joy Stanley and his friend, Adam Bala.
After receiving the report, detectives from B’ Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), acted swiftly and successfully intercepted the kidnappers in a Mercedes-Benz at the Gidan Mai Jos Road in the Bauchi metropolis.
During the operation, two of the abductors, Abubakar Musa, aged 32 years and Dahiru Umar, aged 31 years, were arrested and both victims were rescued unhurt.
The command wrote: Initial investigations disclosed that the suspects had demanded a ransom of ₦400,000 from their intended victim. Additionally, the kidnappers had taken belongings from the victims, including ₦60,000 along with other personal items.”
According to the command, at the point of their arrest, some of the items recovered from them included a pair of handcuffs, two pistols, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, among others
The arrested kidnappers were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives about their nefarious activities while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
