Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shiite, on Saturday poured into the streets of Kano City and held protests to denounce a reported plan by the US President Donald Trump to launch a military strike on Nigeria.
The protesters, who converged on various parts of the city, marched through major streets chanting anti-US. slogans and carrying placards with various inscriptions.
Those who witnessed the protests described them as largely peaceful but charged, as the protesters vowed to resist any form of foreign aggression.
They were said to have stated during the protests that no foreign nation has the right to threaten Nigeria, as they added that the protests were to show their readiness to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Some sources close to Impact Online disclosed that the protesters were mobilised through a Hausa-language social media platform, which told them that the United States was planning to attack Nigeria.
However, following the protests, security agencies in Kano and other northern states are said to be on high alert to prevent any escalation by violent elements.
