Some residents of a community in Katsina State staged a protest on Tuesday morning, setting bonfire on the Kano-Katsina highway after bandits struck overnight, killing one person and abducting 20 others.

Residents of Tashar Danjanku in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State blocked the section of the Kano-Katsina highway that passes through their town, impeding vehicular movement.

It was gathered that the community witnessed an attack from bandits, who came late in the night, killed a resident and abducted 20 others before any law-enforcement agency could arrive there.

The bandits were said to have invaded the community on a motorcycle and carried out the onslaught without being challenged.

However, following the overnight incident, the residents staged protest, accusing both the authorities of the state government and local government of failing to protect them or take meaningful action to address the insecurity they face regularly.

They said this is not the first or second time bandits will invade the community and all their complaints to authorities seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

Katsina State has experienced a lot of attacks from bandits in various communities, sometimes unchallenged, and the hoodlums always abduct residents and thereafter demand for money.
