Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is currently in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, making last-minute moves to ensure that the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled to hold in Ibadan goes on.
The PDP is scheduled to hold the convention on Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16, at the Adamasingba Stadium, but many chieftains of the party are already kicking against the convention.
Impeccable sources close to the governor told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday that Makinde travelled to Abuja on Wednesday evening to hold what the sources described as reconciliatory meetings with the aggrieved chieftains of the party who are kicking against the convention.
Makinde held one of the meetings with the chieftain of the party and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Sule Lamido, in the Abuja office of the party chieftain from the north.
Makinde was accompanied by Senator Abdulahmed Ningi from Bauchi State, Deputy National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, among other chieftains of the party, and they arrived at the office of Lamido around noon on Friday, November 14, to the warm embrace of the top politician.
The governor and the former minister were said to have had frank discussion regarding the convention and there are indications that Lamido gave a positive response to Makinde during the reconciliation meeting.
Makinde is also expected to make last-minute moves to appease other warring leaders of the party, including former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and others over the disagreement regarding the convention before returning to Abuja on Friday night in preparation for the convention holding from Saturday.
